Laborers For Christ
Church Addition a “Moving” Experience for Laborers, Nebraska CongregationEd Kintzinger has tackled many projects over the past seven years for congregations participating in the Laborers For Christ ministry. But none has been as “moving” as the expansion at Zion Lutheran Church, Hampton, Neb. That’s because adding 5,632-square-feet of fellowship and classroom space involved moving a former two-room, 40-ton schoolhouse across the church parking lot. “It was a big job,” said Kintzinger, who, with fellow Laborers, gutted the 1920s-era building and prepared it for the move. “It was pretty amazing to see a building that for some 70 years had been in that one spot move,” said Rev. Loren Cooper, Zion’s pastor. The congregation hired professional building movers who lifted it from its foundation and transported the building on a flatbed truck and placed it near the church. Members participated in the Laborers For Christ program primarily because of the cost savings and the Christian witness Laborers offer the congregation. “It’s a good crew who mixes well with the congregation,” Cooper said. Also serving the congregation is a recent Concordia University Seward graduate, who is a new NAILS (Laborers For Christ’s young adult program) member. Rachel Mol is enjoying the summer job and ministry opportunity, as well as working with people from “all walks of life, but who are all one in the Spirit,” she said. |
