Arthur C. Haake World Ministry Fund
Concordia Shanghai Celebrates Anniversary, Healthy Financial PositionThere are many projects that got their start thanks to funds made available through the Arthur C. Haake World Ministry Fund, established in 1999. This fund is designed to aid LCMS partner churches around the world with capital needs, helping newer ministries share the Good News of Jesus Christ and expand His Kingdom across the globe. Total outstanding loan commitments in 2009 were over $8.3 million. Funds have been disbursed in Latvia, Kenya, Ghana, India, Brazil, and China. The funds that were used in China went to the Concordia International School in Shanghai in 2001. The school paid back that loan in 2009 because school officials wanted to ensure the funds were available to other ministries that may be in need of them, and it is now on solid financial ground. The school marked its 10-year anniversary this year and has much to celebrate. “If it was not for your generous support, we may not have reached this momentous occasion,” said Curtiss Larson, Concordia-Shanghai’s business administrator, in an e-mail to LCEF. “We were on the brink of closing when the LCEF granted us this facility. Now we have over 1,000 students and are in a healthy financial position.” And Concordia International School Shanghai helps to maintain the future of LCEF ministry with a StewardAccount. “We hope the LCEF continues to bless other churches, schools, and church workers,” Larson said. |
